"Khel Ratna" M.S. Dhoni

I was going through tv channels, that new caught my attention. Actually, I was shocked and surprised. It said, “Mahendra Singh Dhoni ko Khel Ratna” (Khel Ratna to MS Dhoni).

I don’t know exactly on what basis these award are given. However, as far as I know, these award are meant for those people, who with their great deeds made our country proud, made world notice us in their respective fields. Specifically speaking about “Khel Ratna”, it is conferred for outstanding sporting performance to an individual or a team. I think there’s nothing outstanding till now from Dhoni. I admit he’s a very good captain and a very good player, but it is not because of him only India got T20 world cup?

I can not recollect why he was considered for this award. If you go on counting his achievements, those are not up to that extent which will earn him "Khel Ratna". I admire his leadership qualities, I feel proud when we talk about our team's win in Australia, and win in debut test.

Just look at the past, it took almost 9 years for Sachin Tendulkar to get this honor.

Actually, we can not compare these two players. But still, if you look at what Sachin had done before getting this award, Dhoni has done very less yet and statistics/records are the proof isn’t it?

Someone will say, Dhoni gave us T20 world cup, world cup after 24 years, only 2nd world cup. I would like to ask, what about Kapil Dev, who gave us world cup in 1983?

How can you forget Sunil Gavaskar's contribution? Did they not deserve to be nominated atleast or atleast a thought of giving them this honor?

What about "The most successful caption in Indian cricket history" Saurav Ganguly? What about "The Wall" Rahul Dravid? What about “Jumbo” Anil Kumble, who is the first Indian bowler to reach the 500 wickets milestone in tests? These people have not done anything for Indian cricket? All these people get is a drop from team, humiliation when they do not perform in “a” match.

Saurav Ganguly did take India to world cup finals. But somehow that year it did not work. You can not blame Saurav for that, because it’s the old story today. Look at last series in Pakistan, we lost in finals.

I am not saying award these people with "Khel Ratna" directly. There is no comparison between them at all; they all have their own class and Dhoni his own. But you can not just ignore all these great players, their contribution and give away the award to someone else who has much more to do and much more to learn?

I am not against Dhoni, its not like that i do not like his game, but still i believe this is not the right time for him to have this award, it is not like that i dont like his game. He is a good player and he has his own style, shots; especially the helicopter shot (the one in which he swings his bat 360 degrees, often a six). After this people will expect much more from him and we know what happens in india if those expectations do not match?

All I want to say/ask whosoever judge these awards, please look at the players contribution, . Do not judge him on basis of few wins or the worst factor in India, “Popularity”. Otherwise be ready to see someone getting some award for scoring 500/1000 runs or 10/20 wickets in a tournament or say champions trophy.

If players from different states started getting awards by political influence, there will not be any importance left to these awards.

Would love to have comments on both positive and negative sides.
